                PELICAN is a remarkable boat.  She is a modern take on a Chesapeake classic: the Scrape.   The Crab Scrape hull form hails from Smith and Tangier Island and was originally designed for harvesting soft shelled blue crabs from the shallow marshland in the area.  The low freeboard, broad beam and shallow V-bottom make her an ideal platform for working and her sharp entry and box transom allow her to easily handle the stiff shop found on her home waters. 

                The original owner of PELICAN fell in love with the design while cruising the Chesapeake with his family and contracted Hylan & Brown of Brooklin Maine to construct one.  Her lines were taken from DARLENE, a boat documented by the Smithsonian Institute and she was modified for pleasure use.   Outboard power, a self-bailing cockpit and shelter house are the first modifications that catch the eye. Bronze hardware, a cuddy with head and storage lockers come to view once aboard.  Her construction is robust, solid wood epoxy composite and she is finished with a hard two part paint which makes her extremely easy to keep looking great.  Her power plant is a Yamaha 200 and this motor was selected as it has electronic controls with a digital tach and fuel management software.  If you are looking for a unique boat with deep Chesapeake roots easy maintenance and a good turn of speed PELICAN is an excellent choice.
