RANGER is the first M42x to come to the market and has been continuously upgraded and improved by her owner. The M42 built on the success of her little sister, the M36, retaining the classic beauty, simplicity in sail handling and heirloom quality craftsmanship. RANGER adds enhanced performance with a taller, high modulus carbon fiber mast, a deeper, S&S designed performance keel and rudder, North 3Di racing sails and a carbon fiber bowsprit integrated into the hull. Additional improvements to her rigging includes carbon EC6 standing rigging, a dedicated carbon racing boom (in addition to the carbon Leisurefurl boom) and the addition of a removable furling staysail that can be flown with a gennaker. She has been very successful racing, with recent 1st place finishes including Maine State Championship (2017, 2018); PHRF New England Champioship (2017); Dirigo Bowl (top overall boat in Maine PHRF fleet) (2017, 2019, 2020), Centerboard Regatta (2018) PYC Pilot Race (2019); Around Islesboro Race (2018, 2019); Boothbay Regatta (2018): Henray Reath Race (2018); Max Warburg Reggatta (2017, 2019) as well as numerous other podium finishes.
While competitive on the race course, RANGER is also designed to be comfortably and easily daysailed and cruised with family or friends. A 105% cruising jib and the furling boom make sailing single handed simple and enjoyable and her original self tacking jib could be reinstalled for even more simplicity. Her unique design makes her equally capable of coastal cruising, daysailing (solo or with family and friends) and being competitive racing. Set up to be sailing and put away in minutes, she makes getting out on the water easy and fun. Offered at under half her replacement value, Ranger is an exceptional value for a beautiful yacht.
The comfortable, spacious and open interior is finished in classic Herreshoff style with antique white bulkheads and varnished mahogany joinery. The white painted wooden v-groove overhead and gloss finished teak plank cabin sole add to the traditional aesthetic.
Immediately to starboard at the base of the companionway is a small but complete galley with an enclosed head with shower opposite to port. The main area of the interior incorporates port and starboard settees designed for comfortable lounging or sleeping. A large mahogany drop-leaf table incorporates liquor storage and invites gracious dining. A modern “butterfly style” hatch above the dining table and eight large fixed portlights provide great natural lighting and ventilation.
Twin end tables with storage lockers below and lockers with shelves outboard are built in at the forward end of the settees separating the main salon area and the large forward berth. A hanging locker forward of the head and lockers outboard at the forward and aft end of the settees provide additional storage. Open shelves outboard at the
center point of the settees provide space for books, etc.
