This 2005 Luux 3.60 sailboat was designed by Gildas Plessis, a naval architect since 1995 who is also a member of the French institute of naval architect (IFAN), teacher at the ENSAN and sailor (Yacht Master off shore). Plessis has designed over 300 boats ranging from a 4 meter dinghy to a 120 meter yacht. This racing yacht was purchased new by the seller in France and shipped to the United States. An article in Bateux in June 2004 (“Portrait: Gildas Pleissis et Yann Dilasser”) describing the Luux3.60 states that, “that the architects are demanding and looking to offer sailboats that are different from the industrial competition. Although expensive, the strip planking technic needs to be extremely well mastered for the finished result to be perfect. The Luux 6.30 design is elegant and inspired by that of larger 60 ft OPEN racing boats with a vertical bow slightly narrow, wide stern for speed and two rudders. The roof is discreet and well-integrated. The mahogany appears inside the cabin but in a moderate fashion and add to the decoration. The mast is tall with Bergstrom rigging (no backstay) which is simpler and allows for a larger mainsail. With the long centerboard 1.80 meter, and the full batten sail, the boat can be sportive. The hull is unsubmersable (certification completed) and can sleep four people in the cabin (it is however not a large interior).
This vessel is 20’8” in length; the beam is 8’4”; the boat draws 1 foot with the centerboard up and 8 feet with the board down. The centerboard is powered from the battery and can be retracted in 5 to 7 seconds. The hull is cold molded with fiberglass covering mahogany strip planking. The result is a very strong hull with the ease of owning a fiberglass boat. As the mahogany is covered by fiberglass, it does not absorb water as does a typical wooden vessel, thereby reducing the weight of the boat.
The sail inventory includes a fully battened mainsail, roller furling genoa and asymmetrical spinnaker.
Auxiliary power is provided by a 2005 Yamaha 8 HP outboard.
The electronics only include a compass and depth finder, although the boat is wired for an autopilot. The seller has used a handheld GPS.
This sailboat has been routinely serviced and maintained at a highly reputable boat yard on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In 2018, the centerboard was removed and replaced with a new SAILTEC hydraulic centerboard system. In 2019, electrical systems were overhauled including the installation of new battery switches, fuses, bilge pump and a hydraulic power pack with controls (for the centerboard system). In addition, the deck was painted in 2019, rudder bracket fastenings were resealed, a keel lock was designed, fabricated and installed, a mast cradle was designed and assembled, topsides and boot top were refinished, all the wood was varnished and a new tiller extension was installed. In 2020 routine commissioning was performed by the boat yard and a guide for the centerboard hydraulic system was composed. Upgrades to the trailer were made at that time as well.
A trailer is included with the boat, as is a custom cover.
This unique sailboat has been expertly maintained and serviced and shows particularly well. It needs a new owner who has room in the trophy case to showcase awards for racing victories!
