Owner's Description of PEGGY LYNN:
PEGGY LYNN was completed by the Landing School staff in 1998. She has a trailer and 50 hp Honda engine. This Classic Downeast workboat has lines taken down by famed naval architect John Gardner. In his book, Building Classic Small Craft, on page 385, the boat is paraphrased as:
The outboard powered workboat offered here is similar to a type developed and used in Eastern Maine. Boats like this were built of wood in local boat shops from Jonesport to Eastport.
The hull shape derives from the double wedge model and is basically the same as the early speedboats of the beginning of the 20th century. The high bow and sharp entrance form a wedge turned up on edge, and the stern resembles another wedge rotated a quarter turn.
The early Jonesport lobster boats have the double edge hull which combines good seakeeping ability with speed.
PEGGY LYNN won first place in the Boston Antique and Boat Festival. She has been maintained by the owner along with the staff of Graham Ganz Boatwright, Arundel, Maine and has had restoration work done by them. She has been owned by the current owners since 2006 and they state she has been a joy to own.
