This fine vessel is a perfect example of why Grand Yachts Inc is always proud to list and sell older GBs. This boat has been diligently maintained, and it shows. Do not let its age fool you, she has many years of enjoyable and dependable cruising ahead.
The preferred single engine is very economical to run, with plenty of space in the engine room to access all sides and for other installed systems. Fuel tanks, window frames, and teak decks are all in great condition.

In production from 1965 to 2004, the Grand Banks 36 Classic is world renowned as an efficient, dependable tri-cabin motor yacht. Owners are known to have great pride in their GBs, and by and large, they are well cared for. This vessel is a prime example, having lived protected in a boat house most of her life, and seasonally, under winter cover by these owners since 2014.
With proven high resale values year after year, a well-kept Grand Banks of any vintage is a smart cruising investment.
Shining gel coat, near-perfect teak decks, window frames and fuel tanks in top condition, this 1982 belies her age and is worth serious consideration by the most discerning GB enthusiast.
In addition to her great condition and classic appeal, of particular note in this GB 36 is the port side salon door to the side decks. This feature is usually only seen in 1988 and newer GB 36s. It is extremely rare in this vintage, and is highly preferred to access the side decks and the flybridge without transiting or disturbing the lower helm.
We do not know the original owners of this vessel, but they are to be commended on their choices and attention to detail: In addition to the port side salon door, there are optional extra teak treatments throughout the yacht that one rarely sees in most other Grand Banks 36 of any vintage:
The interior teak finish is a Grand Banks trade mark, with all joinery, fashioned by master craftsmen, are still in top condition, finished in warm, hand-rubbed satin varnish. There is a removable carpet covering (and protecting) the parquet teak floor.
Like the gleaming exterior, and the sumptuous yet subdued interior, the engine room almost shines. It is very neat and well organized.
Board through opening gates in the railing to port, starboard, or aft. Note the signature wide safe side decks, doors to the interior port, starboard and aft, and port steps up to the flybridge and upper helm.
The Grand Banks 36 Classic set the standard for the tri-cabin layout with the guest cabin and private head forward, the owner’s cabin and private head aft, and the salon, lower helm and galley in between, surrounded by large opening windows.
The engine, genset and other systems are located under the salon floor, in a well-insulated, ample machinery space.
There are two central furnace systems installed on board C’est La Vie: a conventional Espar forced air diesel fired furnace, and a Webasto hydronic diesel fired furnace. The Webasto is plumbed throughout the aft cabin, underneath the berths, providing warm dry heat throughout, with near-silent operation, and with the added bonus of keeping moisture out of the enclosed spaces.
This is a spacious two-cabin and two-head design with the guest cabin forward, and the owners’ cabin aft. Each cabin has a private ensuite head and shower, plenty of natural light and ventilation, and tremendous storage.

Steps up from either cabin to the salon. The starboard door from the salon to the side deck is standard, and as mentioned, the port door to the side deck is notable. This optional port side door gives safe and easy passage to the flybridge.
The galley is integral to the salon, allowing full engagement between cook and guests, and with great visibility and working surfaces
The lower helm is forward and to starboard of the salon, opposite the galley, with engine controls, gauges, instruments, and electrical breakers all close at hand.
Visibility from the lower helm is outstanding, and the operator can easily see all angles when maneuvering in and out of the dock.
The flybridge and upper helm is accessed via teak steps up from the port side deck with secure stainless steel railings for safety. The decks here are also teak clad, with no missing bungs, and with relatively flat Thiokol surfaces.
The wide safe side decks are a hallmark of Grand Banks Yachts. The decks are clad in solid teak planking, all in excellent condition, with zero missing bungs, and with relatively flat Thiokol seams. All three opening gates in the railing open and close as easily and as securely as they should, meaning no railing distortion, even after 40 years.
AC and DC power services vessel through circuit breaker panels with appropriate Volt and Amp gauges. 110VAC provided by 30 Amp shore connection, by the 4kW generator, and, based on available house bank battery power, lighter loads through the inverter.
The Ford Lehman in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine has served many hundreds of GBs for many thousands of operating hours over many decades, giving reliable efficient service. This is a low rpm / high torque engine that is perfectly suited to this style of cruising yacht.
Care has been thorough and consistent under the guidance of the same professional diesel mechanic.
The fuel management and distribution manifold was updated and customized in 2014.
