CONSTRUCTION - INFORMATION PROVIDED BY BUILDER
The Hatteras 53' Yacht Fisherman is constructed of molded polyester resin with woven E-type fiberglass cloth. The boat has a solid fiberglass bottom and deep keel; hull sides are of a sandwiched construction cored with balsa, as are the decks.

The four full length stringers are fiberglass over a foam core glassed to the hull. Engine beds are 5" aluminum channel bolted to the stringers. The hull to deck joint is a "shoe box" style which is chemically and mechanically fastened.

There are three watertight, marine plywood bulkheads glassed to the hull. While all Hatteras models come out of the mold with a gel coat finish, the factory then paints the boat for a more attractive and durable finish.
