The Boat (Bit-By-Bit): The cutter rig is a 1977 32’ Westsail launched in 1985. Bit-By-Bit was the last Westsail produced by the east-coast factory in Wrightsville Beach, NC (hull #688). The boat is 32’ on deck, with an 11’beamandafull-lengthkeel(approximately10”wide)to a depth of 5’.Theoverall length of the boat is approximately 41’ from the bow of the solid teak bowsprit with stainless pulpit to the custom stern stainless/teak boomkin. Displacement is 20,000 pounds (7000 ballast), a heavy weather cruiser.
The bottom and zincs were last serviced in May 2021.There are two storm dings in the port cap rail and rub rail. They are cosmetic and do not leak.
A truly classic ship that needs a good home and a little TLC.
The original hull, deck, and rudder were delivered with teak cap/rub rails. The current owner finished the boat over 8 years. She is the last version from Westsail which had the crowned, "Crealock" deck plan with molded in hatches and propane locker, flush mounted lifeline stanchions, etc. She also had the newer one-piece hull mold which was redesigned by Crealock with a finer entry and fuller stern. The inch-thick hull has been professionally treated in 2005 to prevent blisters . An Aires Windvane is on the stern.
Eleven bronze rectangular portlights (8” X 14”) are the type that can be opened, with stainless fitted screens. This is an important feature to keep the cabin cool while at dock/anchor. An AC air conditioner and fan are included in the purchase price.
Three anchors include a 35# CQR and a 20# Bruce under the bowsprit with chain and rode in the foredeck chain locker. A 110v air conditioner is over the center hatch.
A Lewmar electric anchoring windlass with remote control was installed in 2010 . Custom stainless stanchions (2inch diameter) surround the main mast to allow raising/lowering the mainsail in heavy seas (see photos).
The foredeck Sampson posts are solid 4"x4" teak with hand carved dolphins as accents.
The engine is a 3 cylinder Yanmar diesel (3QM30H) (33 hp) with only 802 total hours. here are two stainless fuel tanks of approximately 30 and 20 gallons. The engine used 0.2 gallons/hour for a range of approximately 1500 miles at six knots. The engine is cooled with heat exchanger,replacedin2018.New Racor fuel/water separator filters are on the main tank.

Two new deep cycle, sealed BlueMarine, house and starter, batteries were installed in 2018 and 2019. There are separate breaker panels for AC/DC and radio circuits, with both digital and analog battery monitors. A Xantrex 10 amp multistage battery charger is used at dock. All wiring is #10 or #12 gauge Teflon-coated THHN multi-strand copper.
The interior of the boat was finished with over 2000 board feet of teak.
Current electronics include a Standard Horizon GX 1500X VHF radio with automatic distress calling. It has are remote mike for cockpit operation. It is linked to a Garmin map system/depth sounder. The maps have not been updated. There is also a Sony AM/FM CD Player with Boston enclosed stereo speakers.
The fresh-water system includes 2 tanks, (1) 30 gallon with a new electrical fresh water 12v pump and new 110v stainless hot water heater, (2) a 20 gallon backup with hand pump. The main pressure water system is a Surflo AquaKing fresh water pump with 4 gpm output. It is activated when the water pressure drops.
The main berth in the cabin converts to a queen-sized bed with custom thick-foam mattress. Two or three children can sleep above main berth and in forward cabin with custom 4” closed-cell foam mattresses. The head was completely replaced with a new unit in 2018 (Raritan High Boy PHHBII manual) and includes a holding tank and a manual pump out.
The lazarette hatch houses a 20 pound propane tank which is connected to 4 burner stainless stove with oven and broiler (Stainless Marine Fittings Inc.,England). Two burners do not work.
