This new design is aimed at those looking for a fast, well built short-handed cruiser, right up to top-end race teams. As with all Grand Soleil's, exceptional aesthetics and sailing qualities come as standard........ The new Grand Soleil 37? designed by the team Botin & Carkeek has already achieved success by winning IRC class 4 overall in Cowes Week 2005 and the Spi Ouest IRC regatta in France. After three years of domination of the International races (World championship, Copa del Rey, etc...), the emerging design office of Botin & Carkeek is demonstrating its ability to become the best design office in the World. (Botin has been also chosen by Team New Zealand for the next AC Cup) The hull lines of the new Grand Soleil 37? are taking advantage of the experience gathered with the all Grand Soleil Race boats which have dominated the most important European Races (both in IMS and IRC). Similarly to the Grand Soleil 45? & 50?, the hull is built in sandwich construction and utilizes a galvanized steel grid structure providing rigidity, strength and lightness. The Grand Soleil 37? is available in two or three cabins with one head.
At Cantiere del Pardo, maximum priority is given to the question of safety and structural strength.
The galvanized steel grid, which is attached to the hull with a metal/acrylic chemical bond and further reinforced with a multiaxial cloth, provides stiffness and strength unheard of in laminated hull structures.
The one piece grid structure is designed to uniformly distribute keel, mast and chain plate loads.
This has the added advantage of lowering the C of G of the boat and also improving the stiffness of the hull thus providing the owner with superior sailing characteristics.
The new design Grand Soleil 37' has achieved a rare goal, that of creating a light and roomy interior within a sleek and fast hull shape.
The internal joinery is of light cherry stained mahogany.
The deck plan is exceptionally ergonomic (see below).
All control lines and halyards are lead aft to the coachroof winches and are concealed beneath the deck level.
The sail plan is based around non-overlapping headsails of around 107%.
This provides fast tacking and the ability to carry full sail over a broad wind speed range.
Smaller and fewer headsails keep the boat uncluttered and of course reduces capital expenditure.
