A stepped hull, and Cobalt was far from the first in the industry to bring such a hull into its fleet. Only when Cobalt engineers were convinced that their design could guarantee, without question, total safety and control to match the hull's obvious advantages, did the 343 come off the drawing boards. Then more Cobalt benchmarks were added: the matchless Cobalt extended running surface, a full-length keel pad for better tracking, reverse chines, a notched transom decreasing drag from the outdrive, and a gentle, gentle ride among all that horsepower.

"With her sleek profile, luxurious amenities, and high-performance stepped hull, the Cobalt 343 delivers a full blast of power and raw sex appeal. This is the kind of boat that puts the excitement back into boating—a fast, user-friendly cruiser that attracts a crowd just about everywhere she goes. Built on a slender deep-V hull with a full-length keel pad, the 343 has a cockpit capable of seating six passengers in extreme comfort. The electric centerline captain’s seat, with its wraparound dash and excellent visibility, is one of the more notable features of this boat. Molded steps on either side of the cockpit provide easy access to the foredeck, and the cabin door slides on polished stainless runners. Inside, the cabin is as elegant as it is simple. An Ultraleather settee and enclosed head are standard, and while the headroom is modest, the accommodations are plush.
