Hurricane Damage
" Luna Sea" was on the hard for Hurricane Irma and Maria in the yard at Nanny Cay Marina on Tortola, BVI. The vessel had fallen down onto it's starboard side during Hurricane Irma. A crane promptly lifted and re-chocked the vessel in the Nanny Cay Marina Boatyard storage area. A full damage report can be provided upon request but here are some of the main issues;

HULL DAMAGE (external):
  • The hull surface, on which the vessel landed when it fell, appears undamaged. There was no apparent visible cracking of the gelcoat or the hull laminate.
  • There are areas of scratched gelcoat along the starboard side.
  • Hull (starboard forward): There is a 40cm hole in the hull, above the waterline, where a boat stand has penetrated the hull
  • Deck: There are screw holes in the cabintop, where the bimini frame has pulled off. There is also a 6cm deep scratch on the starboard side of the cabintop near the companionway and a few scratches in the non- skid
  • Deck: There is a 8cm fracture in the cabintop between the two deck hatches forward of the mast step
  • The vessel has been dismasted. The mast (with in-mast furling) and the boom have been secured to the deck
  • The mast (and all originally fitted equipment), boom, boomvang, all standing and running rigging will need replacement
  • The Genoa furling drum appears ok but the foils are buckled need replacing
  • The in mast furling main sail is torn and needs replacement
Due to the vessel falling over on its starboard side it sustained some flooding on the starboard side with FRESH WATER. The following electrical components may/shale need to be replaced.
  • The 12-v and 110-v distribution panels behind the 12-v panel are corroded. Wiring will need to be cut back and checked. The replacement of some wiring will be needed together with block connectors and busbars
