Pocock 42 - 2002
Sadko is a custom-designed sailing boat, strongly constructed in marine grade aluminium alloy, designed for ocean cruising, and laid out for long distance cruising for a couple, in comfort. The designer, Michael Pocock as well as being an accomplished naval architect, is an extremely experienced cruising yachtsman and the design of this vessel incorporates many features of his extensive practical cruising experience. Easily managed single-handed.
General note on safety equipment: Any safety equipment such as life rafts, Epirbs, fire extinguishers and flares etc. are usually personal to the current owner(s) and if being left on-board as part of the sale of a used vessel may require routine servicing, replacement, or changing to meet a new owner’s specific needs.
Sadko has been conceived and used for very long distance cruising. She can be sailed single handed as all running rigging is led to the cockpit. She carries an enormous amount of spare rope and tackle and many specific spares for the engine and on-board equipment. Because UK gas fittings are different to the rest of the world she has two propane gas cylinders of continental / US type and one rechargeable Gaslow cylinder for use in UK.
The steering and rudder were re-engineered in 2019, replacing Whitlock steel bearings with phosphor bronze rings and the Whitlock rudder lever with a custom made stainless steel lever, eliminating the original welded system.
The thrust and cutlass bearings were replaced in 2016.
The hot water tank, which heats off the engine as well as having and immersion heater was replaced in 2015.
4 large sacrificial anodes on hull and 2 small ones on rudder. Active electronic cathodic protection system.
Sadko’s original owner wanted a boat he could live aboard and use for long distance cruising. He designed her with a raised cabin floor and windows you can see out of even when seated. He sailed her round North Cape to Russia, across the Atlantic, up the West coast of Greenland, down to Chile and down the Antarctic Peninsula. These voyages are recorded in his accounts for the Royal and Ocean Cruising Clubs, which won several awards. We took over ownership in Uruguay with another man, who sailed her up to the Caribbean. I brought her across the Atlantic to the Azores, where she participated in the OCC 2013 Azores rally. Since then she has been berthed at Milford Haven and cruised around the Irish Sea.
