The Catalina 310 originally came into production in 1999. Designed by Gerry Douglas, over 300 models were built until 2012 when the model was replaced by the Catalina 315. The Catalina 310 design modified the Catalina 320 layout to create a spacious couple’s cruiser by dedicating a bit more space to the forward cabin by creating a walk-around forward queen rather than a traditional v-berth.
The Catalina 310 is a beamy boat, allowing for a very spacious cockpit, wide decks, and a spacious salon and owner’s cabin down below. The L-shaped galley opens up to the airy salon with port and starboard settees.
The Catalina 310 carries its beam all the way aft allowing for a very spacious and comfortable cockpit. A central Edison pedestal is surrounded by wide comfortable seating for four with high cockpit coamings. The layout allows for easy single-handing with the primary winches within arm’s reach of the helm. A removable helm seat allows for easy passage through the stern to the swim platform and upper seating on the stern rail provides cozy additional seating options. All of the rigging lines lead aft to the cockpit with the primary winches along the coamings and the halyard winches right at the cabintop by the centerline companionway hatch. A bimini and dodger help keep you out of the elements and a fold-up cockpit table offers a great space for an afternoon or evening meal.
The main salon is light and airy with great ventilation and natural light from overhead opening top hatches, and fixed ports in the hull for visibility while seated in the salon. The owner’s cabin forward has a large opening window divide that can be opened for a nice breeze from bow to stern through the salon. A port and starboard settee are around a fixed table that can be interchanged with a smaller cocktail table. There is storage behind each settee including a cabinet on the port side.
The L-shaped galley lies just inside the companionway to starboard. A top and side loading refrigerator splits a princess 3-burner stove and a stainless-steel sink. There is ample storage with a pot/pan storage compartment forward of the refrigerator along with three overhead storage cabinets and spice rack storage behind the counter. A cabintop side port opens for easy ventilation over the stove and oven.
The forward owner’s cabin features a spacious centerline queen berth with an air-spring mattress and walk-around space on either side of the bed. An opening window in the salon bulkhead really opens the space up and can be easily closed for privacy. A large overhead hatch and opening cabintop side ports provide lots of natural light. The cabin features a storage cabin on either side as well as drawer storage below the bed.
The aft cabin is located aft of the galley. A queen-sized berth stretches across the stern of the boat with a comfortable cushioned headboard to starboard. A large overhead hatch opens to the cockpit for great ventilation.
The navigation station is just inside the companionway hatch for easy communication with the helmsmen. The aft cabin serves as the seating for the nav station. The chart table folds down and out of the way for easier access to the aft cabin berth. The main electric panel for the 12v and 120v systems, the VHF radio, and the stereo are all easily accessible here.
