Vitruvian is a 1985 Tall Rig, Bow Sprit, fin keel. She is the last of the ’85 vintage, hull number 4328. Her interior, however, reflects the more modern look that was started with the boats in 1986: No fiddles on the interior shelves, no brown plaid cushions and vented louvers on the cabinet doors.
Standing rigging, Pro-Furl furler and life lines were done by Stix ’N Riggin’. The bronze through-hull transducer was installed by Mockingbird Marine.
She is set-up to be easily single-handed, with all the lines led aft to the cockpit and the Raymarine autopilot. The battery bank includes two golf cart batteries for the main house bank and a dedicated starting battery isolated with an automatic charging relay. There is also a battery monitor system which helps optimize use and charging when away from shore power. A Lewmar Claw anchor is mounted on the large bowsprit and a wash down pump is installed in the anchor locker so you can wash down the anchor chain as it comes back aboard.
The Universal M18 is in good shape. Starts easily, runs well and burns about one quart of diesel an hour.
Sails include, main, 130%, 150% and a spinnaker in a sock. There is also a collapsible whisker pole.
In 2005, the Houston Yacht Club hosted the Catalina 30 Nationals. At the time this boat was was named Almost There…and she placed first in five out of five races!
