The vessel is a fiberglass cruising sailboat, conceived by Rob Ball of the C&C design team and built by C&C Yachts in Rhode Island. Auxiliary power is provided by a Perkins 4-236M, 85HP four cylinder diesel engine, Serial Number LD 20663. The transmission is by Borg Warner, a Velvet Drive Model 10-18-010- with a gear ratio of 2.57:1, and Serial Number 1821.
The shaft is 1.5 “ stainless steel and spins freely. The stuffing box was replaced in 2015 with a “dripless” shaft seal system. A three blade, bronze fixed propeller is fitted securely. The cutlass bearing was recently replaced.
There is a free standing AM/FM CD with speakers at the aft end of the salon.
A fitted vinyl cover with frame provides protection to the deck and topsides during winter layup.
Folding Steel Cradle
From forward, there is a guest cabin with vee berth offset to port, shelves above, teak hull ceilings and large opening hatch overhead. Aft to port is an enclosed head with moulded sink, mirrored cabinet above and drawer storage below. It also includes a separate enclosed shower with marine toilet. Opposite to starboard is a four drawer bureau followed by a large hanging locker. Continuing aft is the U-shaped galley to starboard with double sinks, stove and oven and free standing refrigerator/freezer. There is cabinet storage and counter space. To port is U-shaped seating surrounding a teak table. Up two steps to the raised main salon, there is a small table to port and nav desk opposite to starboard. The companionway to the cockpit is aft to starboard. Aft and down two steps is the private master stateroom with double berth to starboard and enclosed head with shower to port. There is well constructed teak joinery and teak and holly style flooring throughout.
Two Harken 86 “Electric” Alloy Non Self Tailing Two Speed winches (operated by foot switches) are in the cockpit as primaries. These were refurbished in 2015. The mainsheet winch is a Chrome Self Tailing Barient 27. There are five winches on the mast to handle the halyards. A Barient 26 and a 22 on the starboard side and on the port side a 26, a 22 and an 18. The boom has an 18 to help with the outhaul.
The fresh water system has four 75 gallon stainless steel water tanks located under the floor on either side of the main cabin. They appear to be well secured and properly vented. A Par Max4 model: 30620-0012electricpump mounted at the forward end of the engine compartment activates the pressure system and connects to a Jabsco accumulator tank model 30573-0000.
A “Jabsco” marine toilet is fitted in the forward head compartment, which connects to a holding tank under the vee berth. The aft head is a Sealand Vacuflush with a poly tank in the port lazarette Both are fitted with vents and deck pump out hoses. The waste system plumbing appears to be in satisfactory condition. Waste level aft is monitored electronically.
Sea-cocks are bronze lever action valves operating freely with hoses and connections in good condition.
A Lunair air conditioning system was noted but not tested. The hot water heater is a 45 litre Raritan, Model 171211 with Serial # 3781200.
There are sump pumps fore and aft. The bow thruster is a 6HP Vetus model.
The pilothouse wheel has a 24” diameter and operates with a Wagner hydraulic system.
The 44” Edson cockpit wheel is pedestal mounted and connects through chain and cable to the quadrant. There was no excessive play in the system.
The stove is a three burner propane “Hillerange” with oven. There is also a “Panasonic Genius” microwave oven. Propane tank is stored in the dedicated starboard aft cockpit locker. A remote solenoid shut off is fitted in the galley. A 110V Norcold stand up fridge / freezer has been installed and twin stainless steel sinks are built into the galley counter.
There are seven deck hatches and eleven opening ports. Passive air handling is aided by four dorade boxes on deck.
The mast is an aluminum single spreader section with stainless steel “continuous rod” rigging.
The turnbuckles are closed barrel and appear to be in satisfactory condition. Both spars are painted white. The boom is supported with a topping lift. There is a boom vang.
Backstay adjustment is made by way of a turnbuckle. The running rigging is braided Dacron and appears to be in good condition. There is a “Unit 2” Harken furling system on the headstay and a mainsheet traveler sits on top of the coachroof, forward of the cockpit. Sail inventory includes a mainsail, genoa, jib and spinnaker. They were not closely inspected but all appear serviceable. A mainsail “stackpack” system with roller bearing sail slides was added in 2016.
An aluminum adjustable spinnaker pole is carried vertically on the mast.
There are six 12volt batteries in two banks of four and two. The engine start bank is located in the salon compartment and the house bank is under the aft section of the port settee. The batteries are stored in proper size cases with adequate hold down straps and good ventilation.
The 12V system has vapour proof selector switches and the main panel, located at the port side of the salon, supplies power to the vessel’s accessories. Batteries are charged by means of an 80 amp alternator located in the engine compartment and the battery charger, when plugged into shore power, was replaced in 2016.
Shore power is 120Volt, with 30 amp service to a breaker panel in the nav area. The inlet receptacle is located on the starboard side of the cockpit.
The conductors are stranded copper. There are multiple duplex outlets. The outlets located near the galley and in the head are GFI type approved. A Northern Lights 8KW Generator was added in 2014 as well as a new panel.
Two Garmin Multi Function Display Readouts showing depth and boat speed, wind speed / direction are mounted in a pod on the steering pedestal, with repeaters at the inside steering station. These were not tested. There is a Simrad autopilot with control head mounted on the pod fastened to the steering pedestal guard, together with a Garmin GPS model MAP 740s which was not tested. The ICOM VHF is fitted in the pilothouse and is accessible to the inside helm. A remote access microphone can be plugged in to the cockpit pedestal.
There are Ritchie steering compasses mounted in the cockpit (6”) and the pilothouse (5”).
There are two “Whale Gusher 10MKII” manual bilge pumps, one in the cockpit (port side, near the helm) and one in the aft cabin. Two 12V pumps with float switches are mounted in the bilge cavity forward and aft of the engine. A lifering is fitted on the stern rail. The steering pedestal is fitted with a wheel brake and a guard. The bow rail and walk through stern rail are connected by plastic coated double lifeline wire with gates each side.
Six step transom boarding ladder
The primary anchor is a 45 lb CQR with approximately 150’ of 3/8” chain. The secondary anchor is a Danforth 35lb High Tensile with approximately 100 feet of 1/2” rode. There is a vertical mount “Ideal” Model BHW windlass with 1000 lb lift capacity on the foredeck. It has adjacent up and down foot switches as well as remote controls in the cockpit. The bow pulpit platform is configured with dual anchor rollers.
