Cavalier 39 – A classically designed, fully outfitted, true bluewater cruiser
Cavalier 39s, built in New Zealand to handle the Southern Ocean, are excellent bluewater boats as well as excellent sailing boats. This is a solid boat built to sail around the world, and designed for you to enjoy the sail the whole way. The modified fin keel provides maneuverability, great performance upwind, and steady tracking downwind.
Kiwa is fully outfitted with all systems required for self-sufficiency and long-range cruising, including a Monitor wind vane, two autopilots, 260 watts of solar, AIS transceiver, radar, multiple GPS units, EPIRB and PPIRB, life raft, roller furling, removable inner forestay, etc. There is a tremendous amount of storage throughout, filled with spares for every eventuality at sea. Her interior and exterior wood was all completely refinished in early 2020 (note that pictures are previous gloss finish; current finish is satin). There are only 1330 hours on the Kubota 46 hp engine, which has been meticulously maintained.
There is a comfortable v-berth, lee cloth on the starboard settee berth, and the table within the port U-shaped settee in the salon goes down to make a large additional bed. The nav station is in the quarterberth (which has a door), making for quick access to instruments and the cockpit while on a passage.
Kiwa is on the hard in Loreto, Baja California Sur. There is an airport in Loreto with current flights to and from the US, or it’s a beautiful 4-h drive from La Paz, or a 6-h drive from Cabo San Lucas. She’s perfectly situated to explore the Gulf of California and then take off around the world this coming spring.
Financial and titling transactions are conducted in the US or Canada by licensed agents. An offshore purchase means great savings and the process is more hassle-free than you may think!
