NEW ENGINE installed by Lyman Morse at Wayfarer
MOONDOG is a very handsome 38´ Wilbur Flybridge Cruiser built by the finest craftspeople in the Mecca of Downeast boat building,Southwest Harbor,Maine. This boat has like other 38 Wilbur’s undergone a SIGNIFICANT (put new in front of 80% of the details to follow) refit by a passionate and knowledgeable yachtsman and is proudly offered for sale and ready to provide decades (ABYS Standards) of continued safe and pleasurable cruising, with the addition of a water maker she is ready for cruising Maine to the Bahamas.
Downeast hull designs are known for their soft, dry ride. They ride at relatively flat angles at all speed ranges. Moreover, like many private airplanes, their single engine design cuts fuel and engine maintenance costs in half while providing a keel that gives great protection to the propeller and rudder. Due to the nature of custom built boatsthey can cost more than a production boat but remember the bitterness of poor quality lasts long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten. Get aboard today and “let the boat do the talking”.
She has a raked stem, round chines, full length keel/skeg and full transom. Her hull is a solid fiberglass laminate with a wet box keel aft. The hull topsides were painted Awlgrip flag blue in the fall of 2004 along with the white boot stripe. The bottom paint is blue antifouling, which is well adhered. In 2009, all Pilothouse side windows, port and starboard main salon windows were removed and rebedded. The aluminum window frames were refinished. Laid and caulked teak cockpit sole. 2011 Elaborate new S/S bow rail with lifelines and stanchions leading aft to cockpit were custom fabricated.
The cockpit features an overhead canopy to provide relaxing shaded space with the eye pleasing comforts that only a solid teak wood deck can provide. The new custom SS railings look great, make boarding and staying upright in a sea way rather easy.
The newly designed Flybridge features table seating for four (waterproof stowage below) and the perfect bridge helm layout, much like below but better suited for the weather on a bridge. The new cork decking allows for positive traction, gentle surface landing for glass and an attractive accompaniment to the wood trim.
