The Kalik 40, also known as the Concept 40, was designed by famed naval architect Gary Mull in the Swan and Baltic style. The modern hull design features a fin keel and deep spade rudder for ocean racing, extended cruising and comfortable local PNW voyaging. Total Eclipse is fully equipped and ready for a fast ocean crossing or a trip to the San Juan’s. The current owners have taken extremely good care of Total Eclipse for their 33 years of ownership, on the racecourse and in the marina/boatyard.
Total Eclipse took 1st Overall in the ’90 Bermuda Ocean Race, 1st in Class ’02 Pacific Cup and 2x 1st Overall in the Oregon Offshore.
Total Eclipse is powered by a Yanmar 40hp Diesel (New 2007, installed in Port Townsend) with only 1200hrs. Her propeller is an Autostream S1 Stainless Steel 3-Blade Feathering Propeller. She has a full Autohelm Electronics Suite including RADAR, Knotmeter, Autopilot, Windspeed and Direction, Navigation Repeater, Multifunction Displays (2), as well as a Raymarine I 50 Depthsounder (New 2018), Garmin GPS Map 500 Series (New 2016), Furuno FS-1503 Single Side Band Radio, ProSport 20A Battery Charger (New 2014), PolyPlaner Stereo CD/AUX/Bluetooth and a Sitex VHF w/ DSC (New 2010). Her House and Starter Batteries were both replaced in 2017 and the current owners also added a Lewmar Electric Windlass on the bow (New 2010).
The decks are incredibly well laid out, roomy and easy to walk around. The cockpit is deep, large and comfortable with easy access to the helm. There are 10 winches between the deck and cockpit and 6 are self-tailing. Total Eclipse is rigged and ready for any number of sail combinations and the decks are well designed for working underway.
Down below is bright and roomy with warm wood interior. On the port side is a private quarter berth cabin to port with lots of storage. Across from the quarter berth cabin is the aft head with a Raritan toilet, sink, hanging locker and storage. Going forward to starboard is a large navigation station with storage and well displayed electronics, updated Electrical Panel with new DC wiring (late 90’s). The new House Batteries (2017) are located under the seat at the Navigation Station. There is a Force 10, 3-burner propane stove and oven and Adler Barbour Super Cold Machine in an insulated ice-box. There are several drawers and cabinets for storage as well. Forward of the Galley on port is a large L-shaped settee with a pilot berth above. To starboard is another settee with pilot berth above. All berths in the Salon have Leecloths. There is also a teak folding table that can extend out to both settees for meals, etc. The table stows completely away when you want the space clear.
