The Ruffian 8.5 is a cruiser racer built in Northern Ireland. Designed by W.P.Brown as a bigger version of the very successful Ruffian 23. A very roomy yacht with full standing headroom and five berths, the Ruffian 8.5 earned itself a reputation as an excellent sea boat with excellent sailing performance. Strongly constructed, the Ruffian 8.5 is equally suitable for club racing or family sailing. The boat is designed to be easily handled with all lines led aft to the sheltered cockpit. The Ruffian 8.5 is a strongly constructed, spacious yacht, ideal for family cruising or club racing. Built by Weatherly Yachts of Portaferry, it well known for its sailing performance and seakeeping ability. The five berth layout of the Ruffian 8.5 provides a practical living area for cruising or racing. Easily handled with its masthead rig and all lines led aft, the layout of the Ruffian 8.5 is efficient and effective both for full crews and short handed sailing.
Forward cabin with a V berth and infil, with storage. Doorway to the heads compartment with marine WC and wash-hand basin to starboard and wet hanging area to port. Opening hatch overhead. Door offset to port leads to the main saloon with hinged drop down drop leaf table, two full length settee berths, storage behind and under berths and an opening hatch overhead. The galley is to port aft of the port side berth and includes a two burner cooker with grill and oven, a sink with pumped cold water and a deep cool box. There is a substantial quarter-berth to starboard, continuous with the starboard settee berth, ideal for use at sea. VHF and electronics are located on the bulkhead and in cave lockers to starboard near the companionway. Three steps lead to the deep and sheltered cockpit.
