This brand new Nordic Folkboat, launched February 2018, was built by the Northwest School of Wooden Boat Building, in Port Hadlock, WA. Under the professional leadership of instructor Jody Boyle, endless attention to detail has transformed this boat project into a work of art. She recently competed in the Shipwrights Regatta, a Port Townsend annual event, and took 1st Place in the 'cruising class'. This was her first sail and sea trial. This Nordic Folkboat already has a rich history of community involvement and partnerships which helped to bring this project to fruition and the boat to bristol sailing condition. The sails were designed and made by students studying sailmaking in collaboration with instructor Sean Rankins with Northwest Sails. She has yet to be named, the buyer will get to christen her with the name of their choice. This aesthetically-pleasing beauty has just started her long and rich life at sea and is ready to be in the hands of her first owner(s).
The design of the Folkboat is the result of a competition held by the Scandinavian Yacht Racing Union in 1942. Organizers of the competition were looking for a cabin cruiser that could handle weather as well as be economical to build, fast and seaworthy. It also needed to be suitable for racing and family sailing. Many years later and the rest is history - a colorful history of races, solo ocean crossings, and solo circumnavigations have helped to secure the reputation for the Folkboat as being sleak, stable and comfortable underway - in many conditions. And yes, she sails as smoothly as she looks.
