Albin 28s have been praised for their capabilities as fishing boats, overnighters and pocket cruisers. It is of no doubt this versatility has helped the Albin 28 to become one of the most successful models in the company's history.
Designed by naval architect Terence Compton, the Albin 28 was first introduced in 1993 as a comfortable weekender, but it is safe to assume that most people interested in this boat will have some finishing in mind. A live-well, rod racks and several lined deck boxes that can be used for storage of ice and used for fish boxes make the Albin 28 more then suitable for PNW fishing.
Notable Information and Equipment:
Access to the cockpit is easy via the swim platform and port side cockpit door. The cockpit is well engineered for fishing and other activates and features bulwark padding and solid stainless steel handles on either side for added security. There is a live well and numerous cockpit lockers that can serve as storage for gear or ice. Rod/gaff/brush holders occupy the bulwark sides and a stainless steel arch provides more options for rod/net storage and also houses the radar dome and a flood light that cleverly illuminates the cockpit.
Forward of the cockpit is the enclosed helm station with pilot and co-pilot seats. The helm is located to starboard and features a leather helm seat with folding footrest. From the helm seat the pilot has excellent visibility to all corners of the boat. A solid 3 pane windshield, large side windows, and canvas back wall allow the helm to be completely enclosed in rough weather. The co-pilot seat is also raised for visibility and a convenient chart table with LED chart light is forward.
In the bow of the vessel is an interior cabin. A U-shaped settee and table is in the forward "V". The table drops down to convert into a double berth when needed. Storage is provided on either side as well as under the settee. Cabin portlights as well as a deck hatch provide natural light. A good sized double berth is located aft of the cabin, on the other side of the galley and is a comfortable place for two to sleep.
The galley is located on the port side of the cabin. There is a Norcold fridge, sink with hot/cold running water, and room for the Storm Buster alcohol stove. A countertop folds up on the left-hand side to provide additional space for food/drink prepping.
The Albin 28 features a cleverly designed private head on the starboard side of the cabin. The head is equipped with an electric flushing head, sink with countertop and hot/cold running water, and a medicine cabinet with mirror. The sink tap also serves as a removable shower head.
This Albin 28' is powered by the desirable Yanmar 6LP main engine which produces 300hp. The engine has undergone an extensive servicing in the summer of 2016 which included rebuilding the turbo, complete servicing of the heat exchange, oil-cooler, and after cooler. The Yanmar water pump was also replaced. The boat got a new alternator, drip-less shaft seal, and shaft bearing in April of 2017 along with fresh zincs and bottom paint. The propeller was sent out for re-balancing as well.
