Jenaway's hull came out of the mould in 1989; however, she was not launched until 2002. Between 2002 and 2014 she was gently used for daysailing on Lake Ontario. Unlike most of the other Reliances, she has a sloop rig with a keel-stepped mast.
The Reliance 44 was designed and built by Pierre Meunier of The Reliance Sailcraft Company of Montreal Canada. The hull and deck were constructed of hand-laid fibreglass with a 1inch balsa core. This took place in a temperature and humidity controlled facility to ensure quality construction. A total of forty-six of these true bluewater/offshore cruising sailboats were constructed and Jenaway is hull number forty-four.
Jenaway is a turn-key gem ready for either the serious bluewater cruiser or daysailing/vacationing in the Great Lakes. She is completely self-sufficient with wind, solar and a watermaker [supplied but not yet installed]. The watermaker is engine-driven, which is very appealing, and capable of producing a high yield of 30 gallons/hour. The current owners have made significant improvements over the past few years to make her an ideally equipped vessel suitable for a vast number of cruising experiences. She has been infrequently used over the years with only 725 engine hours. Jenaway has been a freshwater cruiser with the exception of spending only 6 months in the brackish water of the Manatee River, Florida. She presently resides in the freshwaters of Georgian Bay after being trucked to and from Florida.
The Reliances are well known for their sweeping traditional design sailing fast and close to the wind. Her solid, heavy ballast makes Jenaway a very comfortable sea-kindly vessel. Her deep cockpit is ideal for safe bluewater cruising. An expansive fore deck adds additional outdoor living space.
The current owners prepared Jenaway with the intent of sailing her in the Caribbean and Central America. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen personal issues, they have needed to change their plans. As such, Jenaway is for sale.
