THIS IS THE ONE YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR.
Great Mid Size Cruiser! True Colors is a clean nice example of the ever popular Island Packet 35. She is a RARE find and is an ORIGINAL owner vessel! She comes equipped with an Autohelm autopilot, Raymarine wind/speed/dept (NEW in 2013), Solar panel, Bimini, Simpson Lawrence electric windlass, Kato dinghy davits, interior upholstery replaced in 2013, new bottom paint (October 2017), exterior teak treated (October 2017) and more. This 1989 Island Packet 35 has been professionally maintained over her lifetime and it shows! With her high quality construction, sea worthiness and ease of handling, True Colors is a very capable offshore, go anywhere yacht. It is rare to find an Island Packet 35 that has so little use with only 1252 hours on her Yanmar diesel engine. Teak and holly cabin soles as well as the teak cabinetry give this Island Packet a traditional feel. To FWD is the owners VIP stateroom with nice storage including storage under the berth. The head is next aft and to port and can be accessed from the salon or the FWD V-berth. To starboard of the head is a large storage locker. The salon has settees on both sides with a large folding table that conveniently self stores. The port settee converts to a double. The nav station is next aft to port with access to the engine below the companionway. The large well laid out galley is opposite with a 3 burner stove, icebox, double SS sink and ample storage.
The Island Packet 35 has as much room as some 38 foot sailboats and much more storage! The 35 was the first Island Packet mid-thirty foot design introduced in 1989 as a second generation packet continuing & improving on the IP design philosophy of full keel with spade rudder, mast head cutter rig and shoal draft. The 35 has won numerous competitive offshore cruising competitions. Knowledgeable sailors know the Island Packet 35 Cutter is one of the most voluminous boats of her size and includes an incredible amount of storage space. Island Packets are featured in the book “The World’s Best Sailboats” by Ferenc Mate. She has a large cockpit, roomy interior (with table folding flat against the forward port bulkhead), lots of storage, two spacious real size private staterooms, a head with separate shower and a well laid out galley. The Island Packet 35 is a very capable cruiser as well as an excellent live aboard. She is easy to single-hand, with all lines coming aft to the cockpit, yet plenty of room for a couple or small family. Like all Island Packets she is rated “A”Ocean, and is known for her sea keeping ability, safety and quality construction. One of the few "modern" boats that are designed with a full keel and protected rudder, the Island Packet 35 tracks well and is forgiving to handle all the while capable of making good mileage be it a yearly trip down the ICW or a winter jaunt to the Bahamas or Caribbean.
Findings from Bob Perry's Island Packet 35 review: “The Island Packet line of designs by Bob Johnson certainly has a style that is appreciated by a lot of sailors. This style can be characterized as wholesome, traditional and salty. Johnson's Island Packets provide safe and seaworthy boats for people interested more in comfort than knots made good to weather. The Island Packet 35 has a generous spring to the sheer, a short spoon bow and a chopped off transom with very little camber. The bowsprit-platform nicely extends the sheerline making the boat appear longer and lower than it really is. You have your choice of the shoal keel or the even shallower draft keel with centerboard. I can't see any advantage to the centerboard model unless having nine inches less draft is critical to you. The D/L ratio of this design is 246. All full keel designs are not heavy. This one is moderate.
The cutter rig has become the option of reefing the main, dropping the yankee and powering to weather under the mini-masthead rig with the staysail. I'm not crazy about booms."
