One of Bob Perry's most famous sailboat designs, the Valiant 40 is THE boat by which many cruising boats are compared. While Beneteau, Jeanneau and others, build boats that are lighter and faster, they may not be as comfortable when the “chips are down”, and the boats are pounding. Unlike most cruising boats designed earlier, the Valiant 40 was safe, strong and surprisingly fast. Part of that was the less wetted surface, long waterline and long keel. The skeg hung rudder tracks well, and the boat is easily managed. The 15.8 Sail area to displacement ratio is modest by todays standards, but much more comfortable.
Ingeborg is a bit of a project, and the good bones make it worthwhile. While she’s approaching “collector status”, she needs a lot of loving attention, paint and varnish, and you would upgrade gear before going offshore. There is no life-raft or Wifi/Internet. The wind generator may not work, but what a sweet strong hull. Yes, this is a "blister era boat" and a bit of a project. Clean up and sail - You could buy a Catalina 36 in this price range, but you wouldn’t have a Valiant!
The owner has moved, and the price shows he’s eager for a quick sale. Call me soon!
Please Call Lee Youngblood at 425-444-9109 to schedule a convenient time, to see s/v Ingeborg at the Shilshole Bay Marina, just West of Ballard.
